Lancaster Labs expands presence on West Coast

There’s no doubt that clients on the West Coast are an important group at Lancaster Labs. After all, when the 49 states served by the company in 2006 are listed by revenue, California comes in as number three, and Washington and Oregon are in the top 20.

Recognizing the ever-growing project needs of this group, the company has added new resources to make it even easier for them to work with Lancaster Labs. These additional services include a West Coast salesperson to support client projects plus new pickup services and pack-and-ship centers in southern California to augment the Bay Area Service Center in northern California.

The Bay Area Service Center, located in Richmond, California, is the central support center for the West Coast area. The Center includes a staff of three led by group leader Liz Leonhardt, who is profiled on page 7 of this issue. This team provides project management assistance, sample pickup and pack-and-ship services as well as stocking and supplying free sample kits, bottles, and shipping coolers for clients. Using the same recently upgraded computer system as the rest of the company, the staff has total interactivity with all systems and people throughout the U.S.

The Center provides daily courier service in the surrounding area in which a trained technician picks up environmental soil and water samples at the client site and transports them to the service center. There, at no cost to the client, samples are repackaged for shipment to the main facility in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, for analysis.

According to Robert Large, director of Environmental Client Services, samples are shipped overnight in iced containers to ensure that the sample temperature doesn’t exceed 4o C. “Our record is excellent in getting packages shipped to our facility intact and within temperature,” he says.

New courier services have also been established in San Diego, La Mirada, and Los Angeles, California, to provide daily sample pickup and pack-and-ship services for the convenience of clients in those areas. These augment the Lancaster Labs’ network of sample pickup services located in the Gulf States (Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and New Orleans, Louisiana; Houston, Seabrook and Kemah, Texas) and along the East Coast (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Jersey City, New Jersey; Woburn, Massachusetts, and New Britain, Connecticut).
