PADEP requires supplemental lab information

Earlier this year, the State of Pennsylvania published new regulations that affect any organization operating under a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) issued permit. The Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Regulations (25 Pa Code, Chapter 252) require that environmental laboratories performing testing for compliance purposes must be registered or accredited for the tests performed. As reviewed in the spring issue of this newsletter, the regulations include 12 statutes, and Lancaster Laboratories is accredited by the PADEP for all three matrices (drinking water, non-potable water, and solid/chemical material) included. Under the provisions of the new regulation, the laboratory applied for accreditation-by-rule for several additional parameters not previously included in the scope of existing regulations.

In July, PADEP sent letters to many of Lancaster Labs’ clients requiring submission of additional information regarding the laboratory used to generate compliance data. To be in compliance with the new regulations, permit holders are required to list the laboratory that generated each test result when submitting data to PADEP. The Supplemental Laboratory Accreditation Form that was included with the letter is used to inform PADEP where the compliance testing was performed. Additional copies of the form may be found at PADEP’s website: http://www.depweb.state.pa.us/watersupply/lib/watersupply/supplabaccred.pdf. When completing the form for testing performed by Lancaster Labs, the LAB ID number is 36-00037.
